A WORD FROM THE PRESIDENT
DR. MIKE ALLISON
Madison Baptist Theological Seminary (MBTS) was founded in response to a need and the clear leading of the LORD as to how that need was to be met. Many traditional Bible colleges have moved away from their original emphasis on training men for full-time service, and, in many cases, they no longer take the strong fundamental separatist stand held by the previous generation.
We desire, with the LORD's help, to provide a program of instruction which will prepare preachers for their God-called area of ministry while allowing them to engage in faithful Christian service in a LOCAL INDEPENDENT BAPTIST CHURCH. Therefore, we offer a unique educational opportunity that will not be right for everyone. We are looking for students who are sold out to God and have a sincere desire to serve Him.
We also have the conviction that preachers should be trained by preachers. In the Old Testament, the schools of the prophets were taught by the prophets. Therefore, with a staff comprised of pastors, evangelists, and missionaries, MBTS is really preachers training preachers. Our main emphasis is to train men called to full-time Christian service.
Another important feature of this college is that each administrator, board member, and instructor, believes strongly in the importance of the local church. MBTS is a ministry of Madison Baptist Church, and most of the instructors are pastors of local churches in the northern Alabama and southern Tennessee area. MBTS requires every student to belong to a LOCAL INDEPENDENT BAPTIST CHURCH in their area and to participate in its ministries.
The final factor is finances, and MBTS has one of the most affordable tuition and fee schedules in the country. Too often, Bible seminary graduates are forced to delay, or forfeit altogether, their entry into full-time ministry because of an enormous debt incurred to pay tuition. The availability of full-time Christian workers who are willing to fill out staff and teaching positions for minimum compensations, allows us to keep tuition costs unusually low.
We are not competing with any of the other fine Bible seminaries. We are simply seeking to carry out a ministry of "committing to faithful men" the education needed to fulfill their "God-called" ministry for the glory of God.
Sincerely,
